Marc Chagall 20th Century Great Artist in Nassau County Museum
Through November 4, the Nassau County Museum of Art in Roslyn Harbor will showcase works by Marc Chagall best known for his paintings of "The Fiddler on the Roof".
Among the works in this exhibition are a series of hand colored etchings of Bible stories.
According to the museum, "Chagall's storytelling paintings portray a fantastic pictorial world where heaven and earth seem to meet.
It's a world where people and animals -- cows, goats, donkeys, horses
and birds -- float upside down or sideways, irrespective of the laws of
gravity and couples are always in love".
November through February, the museum also presents an exhibit of treasures from the permanent collection of the New Britain Museum of American Art in Connecticut
This exhibition features Colonial and Federal Portraits, the Hudson River School, American Impressionism, the Ash Can School, Early Modernism, Social Realism, Surrealism, Pop & Op and more.
