OLD CATARACT - THE RICH & FAMOUS HOTEL IN EGYPT
After three long years of renovation the Old Cataract , the legendary Hotel that once hosted Agatha Christie and Andre Malro, opened its doors again!
This is the most prestigious and world known hotel in Egypt, an earthly paradise in the banks of the Nile river, where most of the movie stars and political leaders have stayed there.
The luxurious hotel opened its doors again in a new era, difficult for the Egyptian tourism. Despite the fact that is almost 900klm away from Cairo were all the turbulence happens, the hotel has only 25% of their rooms sold.
This Egyptian Palace belongs to the International Hotel Chain Sofitel which was established in 1899 by Thomas Cook.
The entrance remains in the colour of the sand, the gardens reminded us of carefully designed gardens in France and the breathtaking view of the Nile river is out of this world facing the Temple of Khnoum.
When the sun is setting behind the sandy hills, an orange spectacular colour covers the island across, the Elephntine while it brings back images from the Egyptian Myths.
The ultra chic hotel has accommodated the famous writer Agatha Christie and Winston Churchill while their suites were named after them.
When Agatha wrote the bestseller "Death in the Nile" it was in this hotel while her suite costs approximately USD 11.000 per night, with marble bathroom and golden faucets. Needles to say, all rooms have Hermes Amenities while iPod docking stations while butler service is always available.
Agha Khan, Tsar Nicholas of Russia, Francois Mitterand, King Farouk, Andre Malro, Antoine de Saint Exupery, Phillip Rothschild, Belmondo, Lionel Jospin and Nicola Sarkozy are just some of it famous visitors.
