THE CARAVELLE SUITCASE

Through the years Maison Goyard has a commitment to all the long lasting clients to offer an exceptional service with the best quality.

Sometimes they had to overcome themselves and think out of the box  to meet their clients needs no matter how weird or eccentric they where. Goyard was always there  to service every customer individually and never replicated to the mass. The following chapter is dedicated to one of these examples that inspired a piece that has become a Goyard classic.

Today's story, the Caravelle's Suitcase story is one of them.

The origin of this suitcase  goes back to 1930s when a sophisticated Brazilian lady used to cross the Atlantic ocean twice every year to attend the fashion shows in Paris at that time. She would stay a couple of weeks every time before she went back home, enough time to order the new creations of the designers.
As every women on a shopping spree, she always found herself with a bit of overloading . No matter how many trunks she would bring with her it seemed like there was never enough of them to fit all her updated wardrobe.
Being a customer of Goyard she asked is they could design a handy piece of luggage that would require minimum little storage space when empty, but spacious when full. In 1930s as you can imagine that was a challenge. The workshops finally came up with a genius plan of a folding suitcase that would combine the luxury and quality of the materials with the delicate way it would fold just like an origami designed by a Master.

The Brazilian customer had the privilege to use this innovative piece for over two decades in complete exclusivity until in late 1950s Air France asked Goyard for a similar item
A variation on a same theme as the special order for the folding suitcase adapted to the demands of air travel, the Caravelle was named as a tribute to the French Airline company's plane in their logo.
Since then it has been part of the Goyard permanent range ever since.
